This may be Andy's last Harrah with the Yankees. He has only a one year contract and who knows what the phsychotic Yankee menagement might do next year.
Andy just needs to keep his adrenaline from making him overthrow. Between Andy, Jete, ARod , Damon, and Tex, I think this could have the makings of a blowout
for us. Matsui might be in his last game for us and he knows it. He could come up big

I think if Andy and the Yankees win this game and the World Series he can write his ticket. If he loses, who knows. I think if the Yankees had to choose
between Damon and Matsui right this second, Damon wins. One because he can still play left; two because he hits for a good average and has decent power; three
he's still a base stealing threat and four his performance in this series alone has earned him a return.

The problem for Godzilla is the Yanks haven't permitted him to play other than DH so he can't demonstrate what he can do. But, likely Damon has him
for the reasons you've mentioned Russ. If I recall Damon has BoarAss for an agent and he'll want a gazillion dollars for too many years so the Yanks
might just kiss Johnny good-bye not b/c they don't want him but b/c the demands are unreasonable.

I think it depends on how badly Johnny wants to return. A-Rod took less money per year in the end and Damon may tell Scott Boras the same.

It's almost certain that Matsui won't be offered a contract. If there were good and young outfielders available as free agents after this year,
I'd not offer a contract to Damon. Both have done a great job for us, but we need, above all else to get younger. Damon should get a one year incentive
laden contract and we should bring up Austin Jackson and give him a long hard look to see if he can make the team as a regular OF'er with Damon, Posada, et
al being part time players and part time DH'ers.
I think Andy will rise to the occassion Andy |

Here is the list of free agents in 2010. I've highlighted the ones I think would be worth a look. Make your own choices:
Matt Holliday Jason Bay Johnny Damon Hideki Matsui Bobby Abreu Carl Crawford (option): Gary Sheffield Mike Cameron Jermaine Dye (option) Vladimir Guerrero Marlon Byrd Andruw Jones Frank Catalanotto Rocco Baldelli Garret Anderson Magglio Ordonez (option) Coco Crisp (option) Ken Griffey Jr. Jason Michaels Reed Johnson Rick Ankiel Endy Chavez Randy Winn Darrin Erstad Austin Kearns Ryan Freel Brian Giles David Dellucci

I'd look at Crawford, age and some experience on the big stage(2008 post season). I have never been as big a fan of Holliday as others. I would like to see
Damon back, but a few weeks ago Boras was already running his mouth about what kind of cash he wants from potential suitors. Damon brings an impressive resume
when it comes to postseason experience and his good guy attitude. Yes, his skills as an outfielder are suspect at best, but the guy can hit and run the
basepaths. I like Crawford's speed, defense and he swings a good bat. He's also young and as Andy said we have to get younger. I don't see the Sox
giving up on Bay all that easily because they need his bat in that lineup. Some might say what about Abreau, but I say been there done that. Plus, you really
don't get an upgrade on defense with him. I think that Abreau will end up staying with the Angels. As for Matsui, in my heart of hearts I don't see him
coming back as a DH. I wish we could keep him because the guy is a consumate pro when it comes to hitting and is one of the true gentlemen in the game today.
One of my favorite Yankee memories will always be that grand slam he hit on opening day in 2004-when the batter ahead of him was walked intentionally to pitch
to Matsui. What a grand way us Yankee fans got to welcome him with open arms. I really want Hideki to have a great game tonight. Here is a guy who took such
pride in playing every day but never complained when his role had to change. He just kept putting on the pinstriped and contributed any way he could. Class all
the way, nothing would make this Yankee fan happier than seeing him celebrate a WS victory with his teammates. Mary Ann

It reminded me much the same way when Jason Giambi hit the grand slam in the rain against Minnesota in '02 to win it in the 14th. Hideki has always been
one of my favorites, but I just don't see him coming back to NY.

It's not just you Russ, his skills behind the plate have diminished somewhat over tthis season. He still swings some good lumber still, but his declining
catching skills are one of the reasons Matsui will not be back. You have to break in Cervilli next season- that kid has some skills behind the dish and with
some more coaching he can probably shape himself into a decent hitter. Mary Ann
