I.m not quite sure what to think about it. It has nothing to do with steroids. Mark was a power hitter with a relatively low BA. His OBP was decent, he did have some patience, but a Batting coach? I'm not so sure he can handle the job

Mark McGuire new Cardinals hitting coach |

The Cards just rehired LaRusso to a one year Managers contract and brought McGuire aboard as hitting coach.

I think this was poorly timed by the Cards. We are just about tostart the WS and discussion about this shoul have been left until afterwards. The obvious
elephant in the room is the allegations about Mark's use of PED's. It detracts from the spotlight that belongs to the Yanks and Phils. As for LaRussa
being back, I know his time is coming to a close in St. Louis and I think it's time for some new blood there. As I have said in the past, managers have a
definite shelf life and I think they could use a fresh perspective in the dugout. Mary Ann

Who cares? It's the Cardinals. Maybe he'll screw up Albert Pujols???? Naaaaah! McGwire was a one dimensional player and I think the Cardinals will
struggle with him as a hitting coach. What's next? Bring back Denny McLain as a pitching coach?

This is just a publicity stunt for St. Louis fans. McGwire is a freak show and the Cardinals will parade him out for the media to drool over. How many times
during spring training will the subject of steroids come up?

It is also an attempt to give Mac some cred so he can have a shot at the HOF. Would not be surprised that is what is going on as well. St. Louis has no need
for Mac and yet there he is. Why? B/C no one better is around? Why not Sosa??

McGwire's chances of making the HOF are between slim and none and Slim left town.

HOF never even entered my mind. There is no way in HELL Mark McGwire gets voted into the Hall.

Memories are short and let him put some good years in as some sort of coach type position and you never know what might happen. JMHO |

McGwire is not getting into the HOF. I am not sure what this is about but as Russ said, he was a one dimensional player and will likely not be helpful in the
role he has been hired for. This is just a way to grab headlines away from the teams in the post season. Come Spring Training no one will remember or care
who the Cards hitting instructor is.

As long as McGwire is in the spotlight in any capacity....ESPN, FOX whomever will show the clip of McGwire standing in front of that Congressional committee,
raising his hand and swearing to tell the truth.....Then when the first question is asked about his possible steroid/PED use McGwire looks straight into the
camera and says, "I'm not here to talk about the past." An missive answer if there ever was one. Without admitting it he admitted it. McGwire
will never see Cooperstown.

Mark reaches Cooperstown only after Pete Rose does. If Pete doesn't go, then Mark definitely doesn't go!!!! Mary Ann

Sorry Mark....the Congressional Committee was there to ONLY talk about the past! Big Mac has no shot at cred, HOF, or anything else in baseball. he would be
better off just disappearing into the private sector....and keep out of the headlines.

It has to be arrogance or Mark and MLB believing that fans will believe anything. I just hate that this is even a discussion at all. Mark had his chance to own
up to the truth and he chose not to take that opportunity. Anything else he choses to say or do will not change my mind about Mark or his place in this game.

Has anyone seen McGwire in the past year or so? I'm curious to see if he is HALF the size he was in his playing days....since he no longer needs to enhance
his performance at the plate. Ken
